Two 1st half strikes from two debutants, gave AFC a winning start to the 2024/25 League campaign, in the visit to Colne. After a very bright start, it only took 4mins for Caleb Jones to get the faintest of flicks on a Jack Flight effort, to put the Reds in front. Colne responded well and equalised with an unstoppable shot from Dos Santos on 15mins. On 31mins Caleb turned provider as he found Elliot Taylor running into the area. Taylor controlled it brilliantly and fired past the Colne keeper to send AFC into half-time with a well deserved lead.
The Reds should have extended their lead on a couple of occasions early in the 2nd half, with Taylor going close. Colne had their moments without creating many clear cut chances, and AFC started the season with a great 3 points on the road. Manager Phil Stafford said, "The lads were brilliant from the 1st minute, they did everything we asked of them. Even the lads off the bench played their part and I thought the backline was superb".
