Taylor Made for Reds

Two goals for Elliot Taylor and a first goal for AFC from Luke Byron, gave The Reds a 3-0 home victory against Irlam FC.

It was a scrappy start to the game, during which both sides shared periods of possession without creating anything of real quality. The first chance of note fell to Irlam, when Daniels was put through 1v1 but McGovern saved well. Irlam then looked the more threatening but again, without any clear chances being created. Just before halftime, Caleb Jones was put through but the Irlam keeper blocked his effort. Irlam had another half chance that was miscued wide and the half drifted to an end with both teams failing to register.

AFC started the 2nd half much more on the front foot and Caleb Jones went close again, as his effort just curled past the post. On 66 minutes, Elliot Taylor broke free following a defensive error and he finished brilliantly past the diving keeper and into the corner of the net. Jack Flight then had an effort from distance that was easily saved by the keeper. The game then had another period of possession for both teams but not many chances created.

In the 81st minute, fine defensive work from Nathan Giblin and a great long ball ball from Bobby Murphy, sent Taylor through on goal again. He remained strong and calm as he slotted his 2nd of the game. The points were secured in the 89th minute when substitute Adam Moorcroft played in Luke Byron, to get his 1st goal for The Non-League Reds. Aaron Cummins almost made it four deep into injury time, with a great curling effort from outside the box, but was denied by a quality save by Buckley in the Irlam goal. So another hard fought win for The Reds, helped as always by great support from the AFC fans.
