AFC Liverpool slumped to their record home defeat after a poor performance against a very strong Chadderton side. It was the perfect performance from Chadderton as they battered their opponents 7-1 and exacted revenge following The Reds 5-2 success in the reverse fixture only a few weeks ago.
It was clear Chadderton meant business from the first whistle and it only took 2 minutes for their first goal, with Sutcliffe slotting past McGovern. Chadderton hit the bar 3 minutes later and then on 8 minutes, Byrne hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box to double their lead. AFC looked shell shocked but managed to respond well and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, as first Caleb Jones struck a post and then 10 minutes later Bobby Murphy hit the crossbar. Unfortunately it was to be a false dawn as Chadderton added a 3rd goal on 28 minutes, when McGovern failed to gather a ball played into the area and Purfield hit it home. A 4th Chadderton goal was added by Barlow 10 minutes later and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse for The Reds, Edan Bavelock was sent off right on half time, after retaliating when he was pushed into the perimeter fence.
Hopes of a 2nd half improvement were in tatters when Sutcliffe got his 2nd and Chadderton's 5th in the 47th minute. Adam Sudworth got one back for AFC, with his 5th of the season, in the 70th minute, but late goals from Bernard (87th) and Purfield (93rd), completed the rout. A night to forget in many ways for The Non League Reds and one that hopefully they can learn from.
It's back to knockout action on Tuesday evening as AFC welcome back South Liverpool to the MTA, in the 1st round of The Macron Cup. Please get down to support the lads and help them get back to winning ways. Kick off is 7:45pm UTNLR.
