There was plenty of entertainment to help the crowd forget just how bad the weather was, as The Non-League Reds picked up three more points in an eight goal thriller at home to Squires Gate!
The fun started in the 2nd minute when a corner from Caleb Jones was met powerfully by Adam Sudworth, as he brilliantly headed his first goal for the Club. This seemed to stir Squires Gate into action and they started to play some good football and have long spells of possession, without really creating many clear chances. However, a well worked corner routine on 27mins resulted in Dean Ing rising unmarked at the back post to head home the equaliser. The visitors domination continued throughout the half and they took the lead on 41mins following a goalmouth scramble. It looked like The Reds would be happy to hear the half-time whistle at this point, but Caleb Jones had other ideas as he ran on to a long pass and was caught by the keeper as he tried to chip the ball over him. Elliot Taylor stepped up to convert the penalty as we entered the 3rd minute of injury time, to send the sides in level.
The Reds came out with much more energy in the 2nd half and quickly turned the possession stats in their favour. Just after the hour mark, another pinpoint cross from Caleb Jones was rifled home by Adam Moorcroft, to give AFC the lead, on his 50th appearance for the Club. AFC were well on top at this point but were left looking at the linesman as they appealed for offside when Squires Gate equalised in the 75th minute.
It would have been easy for heads to go down at this point but The Reds responded brilliantly and four minutes later Caleb Jones found the top corner with a superbly executed 25 yard free kick, to round off a fantastic individual performance. Any doubts that the points were won were put to bed as the game entered injury time. when after good work by Demetrius Rhami, Sam Smith was on the spot to hammer home the rebound, for his first for the Club and three more points for The Reds.
